caramel crumbles ice cream


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of heavy cream

  • 1 cup of whole milk

  • 3/4 cup of granulated sugar

  • 4 large egg yolks

  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup of caramel sauce

  • 1/2 cup of caramel crumbles (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions:

  1. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream and whole milk. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Remove from heat.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg yolks until well combined.

  3. Slowly pour the heated cream and milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking continuously to prevent curdling.

  4. Pour the combined mixture back into the saucepan and return it to medium heat.

  5. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it thickens and coats the back of a spoon. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Do not let it boil.

  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.

  7. Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes, then cover it and refrigerate until completely chilled (at least 4 hours or overnight).

  8. Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  9. When the ice cream reaches a soft-serve consistency, add the caramel sauce and caramel crumbles.

  10. Continue churning for a few more minutes to incorporate the caramel and crumbles evenly throughout the ice cream.

  11. Transfer the ice cream to a lidded container, and freeze for an additional 4-6 hours, or until firm.

  12. Serve your caramel crumbles ice cream in bowls or cones, and optionally sprinkle some extra caramel crumbles on top for added texture and flavor.
