loaded caprese grilled cheese sandwich

A loaded Caprese grilled cheese sandwich is a tasty twist on the classic grilled cheese sandwich, incorporating the flavors of a Caprese salad. Here's a recipe to guide you through making this delicious sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of bread (sourdough or your preferred type)

  • 4-6 ounces (115-170g) fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced

  • 1 large ripe tomato, thinly sliced

  • Fresh basil leaves

  • Balsamic glaze or balsamic reduction

  • Salt and black pepper to taste

  • Butter or olive oil for grilling

Instructions:

  1. Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium heat.

  2. Lay out the four slices of bread. On two of the slices, layer the mozzarella cheese, followed by the tomato slices and fresh basil leaves.

  3. Drizzle the balsamic glaze or reduction over the tomato and basil layers. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste.

  4. Place the remaining two slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.

  5. Spread butter or brush olive oil on one side of each sandwich.

  6. Place the sandwiches, buttered/oiled side down, onto the preheated skillet or griddle. Cook for about 2-3 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt.

  7. While the first side is cooking, spread butter or brush olive oil on the other side of each sandwich.

  8. Flip the sandwiches and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the other side is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.

  9. Once cooked, remove the sandwiches from the skillet or griddle and let them rest for a minute or two.

  10. Slice the sandwiches in half and serve them warm.

The loaded Caprese grilled cheese sandwich is a delightful combination of gooey cheese, juicy tomatoes, aromatic basil, and tangy balsamic glaze. It makes for a satisfying lunch or dinner option. Enjoy!
